Our Story
Young Coders of Sammamish started in 2022 when Elaine Jiang and Vivian Li took over a small, local coding class from a University of Washington CS Student. Week after week, they discovered something bigger than just programming projects. They saw how powerful it was for young students to have the chance to use technology in a meaningful, hands-on way. They saw students discover that code wasn't only for building apps or games, it could be a tool to solve real problems in the world.
That experience shaped what would become Young Coders' Sphere, an organization built around creativity and impact. Vivian and Elaine decided to create a program that focused on two main goals: empowering students to tackle real-world challenges with technology and inspiring high school leaders to create engaging ways to share knowledge. They developed competitions focused on coding prompts with real-world relevance while inviting high school students to build leadership skills through mentoring others, revamping marketing strategies, and spearheading their own chapter of YCS. Through this, Vivian and Elaine aspire to build a community driven by curiosity and a love for learning, leaving a lasting impact on the space around them.
